About PatientInsure
Currently, the majority of major medical health insurance policies exclude the treatment of medical complications if they are the result of an elective cosmetic surgical procedure. While medical complications following elective cosmetic surgery are rare, they do occur and can be very costly. When such complications develop and they are not covered by insurance, either the patient or the surgeon is responsible for this unanticipated expense. PatientInsure, a new and innovative insurance product, was designed to cover this deficiency. It eliminates much of the worry regarding the medical expenses of an unplanned hospitalization, ER visit, or treatment in an accredited surgical center due to medical complications following many elective surgical procedures.
PatientInsure is available only to patients of Fellows of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) who have been approved by the insurance underwriters for PatientInsure. The requirements to become a PatientInsure Participating Physician are stringent and they include: board certification by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties approved by the AACS or board certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with an MD designation.
Once a physician is approved to become a PatientInsure Participating Physician, all of his/her patients having one or more of the 18 Covered Procedures must be registered with PatientInsure. Registered patients are eligible for benefits if they suffer a Covered Complication as defined in the Qualifying Admissions section of this website. Patients must then be admitted to a hospital, ER, or an accredited surgical center within 30 days of a Covered Procedure(s).
Without PatientInsure, patients and surgeons most likely will be left with a financial burden should a medical complication occur during or after an elective cosmetic procedure. This program allows the patient and the surgeon to have the opportunity to focus on the benefits and outcomes of surgery rather than worrying about the adverse economic impact of certain medical complications.
In order to accommodate the vast consumer and physician interest in this product, a Details for Patients page as well as a Details for Physicians page can be accessed on this website.
