What is the first step in becoming a PatientInsure Participating Physician?
A PatientInsure Physician Questionnaire must be completed and faxed or mailed in to the PatientInsure office. A Questionnaire can be obtained under the Enroll Now (link) section of this website.
Are there additional fees once I become a PatientInsure Participating Physician?
No, there are no administrative or processing fees of any kind.
What type of training will my staff receive before they begin to administer this program to my patients?
After a policy number is issued and PatientInsure supplies are received in your office, all staff members responsible for administering PatientInsure will be required to participate in a conference in-service call. This will be a time in which any questions or concerns will be discussed in detail.
Can I choose which patients are registered for PatientInsure coverage?
No, all patients having one or more of the 18 Covered Procedures (link) must be enrolled and registered in the program.
Are there any exceptions to the fact that all of my patients having one or more of the 18 Covered Procedures must be enrolled in PatientInsure?
Yes, any patients having any or more of the 18 Covered Procedures under strictly local anesthesia or patients whose regular health insurance covers the original cosmetic procedure do not qualify for PatientInsure.
What is an Incurral Period?
The Incurral Period is the period of time (30 days) that a Covered Complication must occur and be treated in a Hospital, ER, or an Accredited Surgery Center in order for Benefits (link) to be paid.
When does the 30 day Incurral Period begin?
The 30 day Incurral Period begins immediately following the administration of general anesthesia or intravenous sedation in preparation of a Covered Procedure.
If a PatientInsure patient has a Covered Complication that I would have treated myself in my office prior to PatientInsure, should I now send the patient to the hospital?
PatientInsure is not designed to encourage a physician to change his/her treatment protocols. It is dependent upon the clinical judgment of the physician as to which course of treatment is best indicated for a particular patient’s complication.
If I treat my patient in the Hospital, ER, or an Accredited Surgery Center for a Covered Complication, will PatientInsure cover my bill?
No, the original cosmetic surgeon does not get reimbursed for his/her professional fee as do other treating physicians and healthcare professionals.
Does this imply that I cannot charge the patient a professional fee?
No, this just means that PatientInsure will not reimburse for the professional fee and the patient would be financially responsible for the bill.
Can I be the hospital ER admitting doctor?
Yes, the original cosmetic surgeon can admit the patient, however as stated in question #9 the cosmetic surgeon’s professional fee will not be reimbursed, but other treating physicians and healthcare professionals would be.
If I treat my patient in my office for a covered complication during the 30 day incurral period, would they be eligible for PatientInsure benefits?
No, a patient must be seen in an ER, treated in an Accredited Surgical Center, or be admitted into a Hospital within the 30 day incurral period to qualify for Benefits.
